The principals of Strategic Ink bring a wealth of training, knowledge and skills from years in industry, government, high-tech, education, healthcare and non-profits.
David Cagle is a former newspaper reporter and editor, as well as an educational videotape producer and director. He also worked as a marketing writer and editor, and a spokesman and magazine editor for various organizations.
He reported on science, technology and medicine for The Huntsville (Ala.) Times, covering George C. Marshall Space Flight Center, Army Missile Command, Ballistic Missile Defense Systems Command, local hospitals and the University of Alabama in Huntsville Medical School. He wrote about the development of the Space Shuttle and the Hubble Space Telescope, as well as Army missiles and laser-guided munitions.
David served as a technical writer and editor, as well as a program manager, for the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Johnson Environmental and Energy Center. He wrote and edited marketing brochures, presentations and proposals for Northrop/Grumman’s Aircraft Division. Among the programs on which he worked were the F-5 Tiger II, the F-20 Tigershark, the F/A-18 Hornet, and various technology efforts.
He was selected to write speeches and documents for Northrop’s senior executives, including the chairman of the board and the president, as well as author portions of the annual report.
After leaving Northrop, he was the director of communications at Pacific Clinics, a community-based, outpatient, mental health agency, serving Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley.
Before starting Strategic Ink, David was the spokesman and magazine editor for UCLA’s School of Dentistry. He also was the director of patient services, managing the business operations for a dental service providing $4 million of care annually.
Marilyn Cagle was the corporate communications and community relations manager for Citigroup’s Los Angeles-based technology division. In that capacity, she produced TEMPO, a six-page newsletter that enjoyed global circulation and praise, highlighted new technology, products, processes and staff achievements. She also wrote intranet content, weekly news bulletins, grant proposals, as well as benefits and training materials.
In her role with Citigroup, Marilyn managed company events, ranging from small breakfast gatherings to annual meetings and holiday parties for 1,000 people.
She created the company-wide employee recognition program and all community outreach programs. She built networks amongst nearby employers by emphasizing common interests, and garnered support to address such common issues as traffic, nearby residential and commercial development, childcare, etc.
Marilyn supervised management training programs. This included course development, producing training materials, hiring consultants, marketing courses to participants, and contracting for training facilities.
